Jalan Bisma: a street guide from the team who work on it
Jalan Bisma is one of the few quiet streets in central Ubud. It runs south from Jalan Raya Ubud, the main street, towards the Sacred Monkey Forest, and Sanctuary Villas sits in its southern half: 7 minutes' walk from the forest, 16 from the main street. This is the list our team sends guests on WhatsApp, with every place checked and every distance measured from the villa.

The street in minutes
Most of what people come to Ubud for is a walk from Bisma. These are the walking times from the villa, and the reason guests here rarely need a scooter.
On foot from Sanctuary Villas
The closest thing to do is next door. Bisma Padel, a padel club, sits about 50 m from the villa, so a morning game is a one-minute walk and you can be back in your own pool straight after. Ask us on WhatsApp and we will check court times for you.
Bisma is central, but it is not all of Ubud. The vegetarian cafés of Penestanan and the day trips to Tegallalang or Tirta Empul are a ride, not a walk. We arrange the car for those, and for the airport: about 90 minutes from Ngurah Rai airport, traffic depending.
If you are still choosing where to stay, here is why a private villa this central is rare in Ubud.
Eating on Jalan Bisma
Seven places on the street itself, nearest first. The minutes are the ones our team gives guests. Tell us on WhatsApp which one you want and we will book the table.
On Bisma, from the villa
For a first evening, Embers is the closest proper dinner and Chora the Mediterranean choice a few minutes further up. Breakfast is cooked to order in your villa every morning; when you want a change, three of the cafés are within six minutes to the north.
About a kilometre away
Five more from the team, each about as far as the Art Market, so around a quarter of an hour on foot. If you only try one, make it Locavore To Go: it is where our team sends guests for the best burger in Ubud.
In a straight line from the villa
Penestanan, for vegetarian and vegan food
West of Bisma, across the Campuhan river valley, the village of Penestanan holds several of the vegetarian and vegan places on our list. It is 1.2 to 1.6 km in a straight line, but the valley in between means steps and hills, so most guests take a short ride. Ask us and we will arrange the car.
In Penestanan
Let us do the legwork
The list above is where it starts, not where it ends. Someone from the villa team is on WhatsApp around the clock: ask before you head out and we will book the table, suggest what suits the evening you have in mind, or call a car for anything further than a walk.
Ten private pool villas sit on this street, each with breakfast cooked to order every morning. For two, Villa Lima has a stone bathtub beside its pool; for a family or friends, Villa Sepuluh has three bedrooms and an eighteen-metre pool.
